GESPROVE is a family-owned company led by José Pinheiro, whose family has a long-standing tradition of winegrowing spanning several generations. Born into a humble family, José worked as a student while earning a degree in Agro-Industrial Engineering. He went on to spend 14 years as a winemaker at Sandeman, where he developed extensive expertise in the production, ageing and blending of both Port and Douro wines.

In 2003, José left Sandeman to establish his own wine business, producing Douro wines under the Estopa, Abastado and Montes de Calma brands. At the same time, he began acquiring and carefully selecting aged Port wines, with the aim of creating a distinctive range of Ports under the Soneto brand.

GESPROVE's vineyards are located on a property close to the emblematic Cachão da Valeira, the historic site where the renowned Baron of Forrester lost his life in a shipwreck. This exceptional location provides ideal conditions for growing high-quality Douro grapes, which form the foundation of the company's distinctive wines.

The wines are aged in a modern warehouse designed to provide stable and ideal climatic conditions, allowing them to mature slowly and develop their full character and complexity.
