The work of oenologist Luis Duarte & Mafalda Vasques in their vineyards is more than just a passion. The establishment of the estate & the cultivation of the vines, as well as a custom state-of-the-art wine cellar, are all based on the latest findings in high-end viticulture.

Herdade dos Grous belongs to the Austrian/German Pohl family. Known for their luxury hospitality in the Algarve region since the 80’s. With a total of 700 hectares, where 73ha are dedicated to high quality vineyards.

The rest is dedicated to sustainable agriculture & the keeping of livestock. Taking care of the environment & sustainability are the base of this project.   • Grous Ltd Edition Concrete White 2019

    GRO3-W Cork - Vinho Regional do Alentejo - Arinto - 14%

    (Wooden Case of 3)

    Immediately from harvesting, the grapes go for overnight storage in a cool room at 8°C. The following day they are hand selected, destemmed & gently pressed. The must is ‘cold-settle’ for up to 2 days, from here all fermentation is performed in concrete tanks! Ageing for 6 months with battonage & sur lies throughout. Choosing spherical concrete, over barricas was a choice based entirely on concretes fantastic stabalizing effect on temperature. Keeping a natural & neutral profile to the wine.

    Tasting notes: Golden green colour, white floral & citric fruit aromas. On the palate a complex & rich structure of minerality & fruit. Perfectly balanced with a citric acidity!

    Food Pairing: Rich fish dishes & white meat. A perfect combo with delicate Asian dishes!

  • Grous White 2020

    GR01- W Cork - Alentejo - 50% Antão Vaz, 30% Arinto & 20% Gouveio - 13%

    What do you expect from this Grous entry level white wine? How about body, freshness, individuality, richness & quality? Surely not, it’s their entry level white!

    Well ready your taste buds for an outstanding, complex & unique white wine! This is all a result of a painstaking process that ensures the grapes are the highest standard possible by the time they reach the winery.

    This delicious offering from our famous producer is a gold green colour with intense freshness & tropical fruit aromas. The palate is rich in white & citric fruit with a wonderfully elegant well balanced acidity.

    Suggestions: To accompany with rich fish & seafood dishes, poultry, carbonara pasta as well as terrine.

  • Grous Reserva White 2021

    GRO2-W Cork - Alentejo - Antao Vaz 40%, Arinto 30%, Alvarinho 20%, Viognier 10% - 13.5%

    All three grapes have a presence in this rich white wine. Fermentation is in new French & Hungarian barrels at 14ºC for 3 weeks. Then it is aged “sur lies” with “battônage” to intensify its flavours.

    Intense peaches & lime aromas are the result & it has been given more complexity with vanilla from the oak. The palate is rich in fruit & minerals & a well balanced acidity. It is truly a magnificent big white from the heart of Alentejo that is ideal for those not so perfect British summers!

    Suggestions: To accompany with rich fish dishes (in creamy or tomato sauces) & white meats & pasta dishes such as carbonara.

  • Grous Red 2019

    As one of the leading wineries in Portugal Herdade dos Grous have to have an outstanding entry level range. This beauty is created by the well known Luis Duarte, the estate oenologist, & produces a wine with real character & style. It is deep, concentrated with plummy-red tones & complex aromas. Mature & well integrated fruit developed in this wine whilst ageing for 9 months in French oak. It is appealing, full-flavoured, with good concentration & a soft tannin structure. A great entry wine that is big & sumptuous.

    Suggestions: A perfect accompaniment to Mediterranean dishes It also matches with chicken curry & strong cheeses.

  • Grous Moon Harvest Red 2020

    GRO3-R Cork - Vinho Regional do Alentejo - Alicante Bouschet - 14%

    Just like it influences the tides, the moon also influences the sap inside the vine. This amazing award winning wine’s grapes are hand picked at the time when the moons influence is at its most favourable over the vineyard.

    The difference is amazing & it is clear why this wine has been on the 50 Great Wines of Portugal list in previous years & recommended by Jancis Robinson as a fantastic Alicante Bouschet from Alentejo. Deep, concentrated ruby colour; complex aromas of matured fruit & subtle oak nuances. Full-flavoured, round, silky & mature tannins.

    Awards: Gold Medal – Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2015. Highly recommended in Decanter wine magazine April 2016 edition.

    Style: Silky, mouth-watering red

  • Grous 23 Barricas Red 2019

    GRO2-R Cork - Vinho Regional do Alentejo - Syrah 60%, Touriga Nacional 40% - 14%

    Luis Duarte has created this multi award winning wine that is full-flavoured with an elegant profile & soft tannins. After 12 months of slow maturation in French oak he selected 23 casks of the best lots of Syrah & Touriga Nacional. It is a deep red with concentrated plummy tones & some spicy notes as well as complex & delicate aromas & finish.This wine is commonly selected in the 50 Great Portuguese Wines annual selection as judged by experts such as Sarah Ahmed, Jamie Goode, Tom Cannavan & Olly Smith.

    Serving Temperature: 14 - 16ºC.

    Suggestions: Drink with grilled or slow cooked red meats, especially lamb. It also matches with game & high protein cheeses.
